In 2025/26 (its first year) the scheme funded 84 projects across 200 farms, planting over 83,000 trees and creating or restoring over 43km of hedgerow. Important habitats such as ancient woodlands, ffridd, and riverside corridors – and iconic species including curlew, adder, dormouse and otter are now better protected thanks to the commitment of farmers and the Ffermio Bro teams working alongside them.

Ffermio Bro is managed locally by the Designated Landscapes. Farmers and landowners should apply directly to Designated Landscape bodies, who have set the local priorities for the scheme, and award funding for activities that reflect local needs. Farmers do not need to apply through RPW for Ffermio Bro grants.

Ffermio Bro forms part of the SFS Collaborative Layer, and is integrated with the wider SFS offering.
Reflecting the high level of demand from farmers, the scheme has received a significantly increased funding allocation for 2026 – 2028 from Welsh Government. This will enable us to scale up delivery, supporting larger landscape-scale projects across many more farms – such as major collaborations to improve water quality across entire river catchments. Over 2026-28, Ffermio Bro will receive over £6.5m , with £2.72m per year in capital funding alongside a substantial revenue allocation. This revenue funding will enable Designated Landscapes to recruit additional staff, undertake essential ecological surveys, deliver training and advisory support for farmers.
Ffermio Bro is a collaborative scheme, and we expect that virtually all funded projects to be partnerships between multiple farms. Local advisors are on hand to help create and foster these collaborations.
Although primarily focussed on nature, we will also fund projects that improve rights of way, as well as those that benefit archaeological features and scheduled monuments.
