Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places support secured for the next three years
Over 30 projects across the Welsh Designated Landscapes have been supported for the next three years.
The Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places (SLSP) fund is a programme of public capital investment across Wales’s eight Designated Landscapes, enabling them to address the climate and nature emergencies through work on biodiversity and nature recovery, accelerating decarbonisation, supporting resilient and green communities and delivering sustainable tourism.
Initial delivery in 2020-22 funded over 90 different projects. The move to a three-year allocated fund allows Designated Landscapes to plan more strategically and deliver longer term projects with stronger partnerships.
The SLSP fund supports projects that deliver one or more of four key themes, linked to Welsh Government priorities and the statutory purposes and key responsibilities of National Park Authorities and AONBs:
- Promoting Biodiversity and nature recovery – including projects that improve connectivity and resilience of ecosystems in designated areas, using nature-based solutions to mitigate against the impacts of climate change
- Accelerating Decarbonisation – through decarbonisation of activity and assets towards net zero, schemes to enable decarbonisation in communities including appropriate renewable energy, and carbon sequestration schemes in the landscape
- Supporting Resilient and Green communities – enabling Designated Landscape bodies to deliver social, environmental, cultural or economic outcomes for their communities
- Delivering Sustainable tourism – including mitigating the negative impacts of over-tourism, upgrading visitor facilities and infrastructure in an environmentally sensitive, resilient and durable way, helping landscapes recover from and adapt to changing tourism patterns during and following Covid; and improving and protecting valued cultural and heritage assets.
