An independent Task and Finish group is being convened by TCLW to consider improvements to the efficiency and modernisation of Designated Landscape bodies in Wales.
Wales’ National Parks and National Landscapes cover 25% of Wales and are not solely scenic or recreational spaces. They are critical landscapes that support nature, rural economies, water supplies, cultural identity —including the Welsh language — and climate resilience.
With the upcoming Senedd election, a potential new National Park on the horizon, and changes to National Park and National Landscape duties in England, now is a pivotal moment to review the effectiveness of our Designated Landscape bodies in Wales.

The Task and Finish Group will play a central role in shaping recommendations to TCLW to ensure our landscapes are governed in a way that is resilient, inclusive, and fit for the change and ambitions of the next 25 years. These include responding to the nature and climate emergencies; navigating funding challenges and opportunities; enhancing the role of Designated Landscapes in legislative developments such as the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and the Environment (Wales) Act 2016, and ensuring our landscapes are places where nature and communities can thrive together.
