New educational resources linked to the new Curriculum for Wales will be developed as part of a collaborative project between the eight designated landscapes of Wales funded by the Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places (SLSP) fund.
Led by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority the project will see collaborative working between teaching communities and Wales’ designated landscapes, to design and create learning resources available to all educators.
The accessible resources will support learning and promote understanding, appreciation and stewardship of designated landscapes and the wider environment.
Bryony Rees, Outdoor Schools Coordinator for Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority said:
“The new Curriculum for Wales is being implemented this year, so it is the perfect time to develop and create educational resources linking the new curriculum to the designated landscapes of Wales.
“Our AONBs and National Parks have such an important role to play supporting teaching and learning across a range of areas from habitats and biodiversity to sustainable land management, climate change, culture and language, and our health and wellbeing.
“The aim is to create accessible, bilingual resources for schools and educators in Wales. This will build on the good practice gained from our involvement in the Pembrokeshire Outdoor Schools partnership Pembrokeshire Outdoor Schools in creating a local education resource.”
Think, Learn Challenge (TLC), consultants who provide a wide variety of bilingual educational services have been commissioned to work with the designated landscapes to develop the resources. The project will also seek to develop a collective identity for learning resources across the designated landscapes to promote access to this aspect of their work.
As part of this development, TLC are asking teachers and educator to help by filling in a short survey, found here. The survey is open until the 30th June.
This project is supported by the Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places (SLSP) fund, administered through the Welsh Government and Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales. SLSP is a programme of capital investment across Wales’s eight Designated Landscapes, enabling them to contribute to key Welsh Government objectives around promoting biodiversity and nature recovery, accelerating decarbonisation, supporting resilient and green communities and delivering sustainable tourism.
