A major new scheme to support nature-friendly farming across Wales’ most cherished landscapes will be showcased at this year’s Royal Welsh Show (22–25 July).
Ffermio Bro is a collaborative programme delivering targeted support for farming projects in Wales’ National Parks and National Landscapes (formerly Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Backed by £1.8 million of Welsh Government funding, the scheme funds practical, place-based projects that support nature recovery, climate action, rural resilience, and community connection.
Throughout the week of the show, visitors will be able to meet the team behind Ffermio Bro, speak to farmers already involved in the scheme, and learn how to get involved. Each event will be held at the pavilions of farming unions – a deliberate choice to reflect the scheme’s collaborative, farmer-first approach.
Ffermio Bro is delivered locally by each of Wales’ eight Designated Landscapes, which set priorities tailored to their area’s specific environmental and community needs. Farmers and landowners apply directly to their local Landscape body, which awards funding for projects that meet these local aims.
Dedicated Ffermio Bro advisors are already working closely with farmers across Wales to help develop applications, offer guidance, and support collaborative proposals that span multiple farms or common goals.
While the scheme encourages joint action across farms, formal partnerships aren’t required. Individual projects are also welcome if they support wider landscape benefits.
Ffermio Bro will be hosting events throughout the Royal Welsh Show, providing a chance to hear more about the scheme, ask questions, and hear directly from farmers and staff involved:
- Mon 22 July, 3pm – Country Land and Business Association (CLA) Pavilion
- Tues 23 July, 3pm – National Farmers’ Union (NFU) Pavilion
- Weds 24 July, 9.30am – Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) Pavilion
Each event will include short presentations, followed by time for conversation and Q&A. Members of the Ffermio Bro team will be available throughout the show for informal chats.
