Active travel and transport supported in the Wye Valley
Promotion of active and more sustainable travel and transport in the Wye Valley AONB has been supported by the Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places fund.
This project will be implementing relevant parts of the Wye Valley (AONB) Villages Active Travel study funded in 2020 to 21, which includes promotion of less polluting modes of transport, for example: walking and cycling route enhancement, installation of infrastructure and the promotion of local buses and information available on the buses.
Andrew Blake, Wye Valley AONB Manager said: “We are really excited to see improved visitor infrastructure, particularly for cyclists. This will help enhance opportunities for increased uptake of cycling and hence reduce emissions This should then have knock effects and broaden enterprise opportunities to cater for and accommodate an increased number of cyclists.
“Walking and use of public transport will also be promoted and encouraged with similar benefits, and overall it will help increase visitors’ enjoyment of area, including appreciation of local heritage and culture.”
The Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places (SLSP) fund, administered through the Welsh Government and Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales, is a programme of capital investment across Wales’s eight Designated Landscapes, enabling them to contribute to key Welsh Government objectives around promoting biodiversity and nature recovery, accelerating decarbonisation, supporting resilient and green communities and delivering sustainable tourism.
