Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales

Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales is a partnership of the five National Landscapes: Anglesey, Clwydian Range and Dee Valley, Llŷn, Gower and Wye Valley; and the three National Park Authorities: Bannau Brycheiniog, Eryri and Pembrokeshire Coast.

The Welsh Government Designated Landscape and Countryside Access team, the National Landscapes Association and Natural Resources Wales are also represented on the partnership.

Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales combines the strengths of the eight Designated Landscapes, working together for the benefit of Wales and its people, securing the long-term resilience of the landscapes and their communities.

Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales was established in 2020 following the commitment to create a National Designated Landscape Partnership in ‘Valued and Resilient: The Welsh Government’s Priorities for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Parks’ (July 2018).

Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales unlocks the potential of Designated Landscapes to deliver more for climate, for nature, for culture and heritage and for people. Designated Landscapes are exemplars in responding to the climate and nature emergency; where a people-focused approach ensures all voices are represented and all radical action is taken collaboratively.

This Position Statement will guide our work as the family of Designated Landscapes in Wales.

In addition to unlocking the potential of Designated Landscapes in Wales, Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales:

Supports Designated Landscapes as they align their work with Welsh Government’s wellbeing objectives and enables them to deliver key Programme for Government commitments, including:

• Building an economy based on the principles of fair work, sustainability and the industries and services of the future.
• Building a stronger, greener economy as we make maximum progress towards decarbonisation.
• Embedding our response to the climate and nature emergency in everything we do.
• Celebrating diversity and a commitment to anti-racism, offering an equity of experience for all – so that anyone who volunteers, visits or works for Designated Landscapes has an equally positive experience.
• Pushing forward towards a million Welsh speakers by 2050, and enable our tourism, sports and arts industries to thrive.o Making our cities, towns and villages even better places in which to live and work.

Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales:

Enables a more structured and supportive relationship across Wales’ Landscapes, including beyond our borders, as they work together on key challenges.

Proactively connects Designated Landscapes with NRW specialists and other partners on strategic issues including climate change, decarbonisation and nature recovery.

Supports the delivery of the Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places (SLSP) capital fund across Designated Landscapes, and support delivery of other funding streams, including revenue and opportunities for collaborative work.

Engages with external stakeholders to promote awareness of the role and work of Designated Landscapes.

Our objectives

• Wales’ landscape bodies have structured and supportive relationships across all partners and work together on key challenges including the nature and climate emergencies, delivering sustainable tourism, and supporting resilient and green communities.

• Wales’ landscape bodies are supported and enabled to deliver on their Statutory Management plans and key Welsh Government policy areas and priorities through partnership working.

• Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales supports Designated Landscapes to diversify funding streams.

• We demonstrate the progress of Designated Landscapes and Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales in collaborative working and their contribution to priority areas.
