Meet Anna Jones, Inclusion, Diversity and Governance Excellence Strategic Lead

Can you tell us a bit about your new role?
In a nutshell, my role as Inclusion, Diversity and Governance Excellence Strategic Lead will see me working in partnership across Wales’ Designated Landscapes to increase awareness and promote diversity both internally among staff, volunteers, and members and also externally amongst our communities and visitors, with a particular focus on key Welsh Government initiatives, including the socio-economic duty.

What are you most looking forward to in this role?
I was aware of some of the great work already undertaken by Wales’ Designated Landscapes, particularly in the area of accessibility, but it has been really inspiring to find out about all of the hard work and aspirations bubbling away in regard to other areas, such as expanding our youth engagement offerings – hopefully my role will see me joining up some of the dots across teams and making the most of shared resources and learning. Crucially, as relatively small bodies, I am also exploring expanding certain areas across the environment sector more generally, such as improving diversity in our recruitment and network opportunities.

What about you, can you tell us a bit about your background?
I have a legal and policy background with extensive experience in Pembrokeshire grassroots community engagement and local government work, having worked within the third sector and the town and community council sphere, with a particular focus on sustainable initiatives and engaging with our underserved communities. I have worked as an Advisory Board member for a global travel and tourism company advising on inclusion and sustainability and have a real passion for connecting people with Welsh culture, the environment, and our landscapes.
