Resilient Uplands – Resilient peatlands
Restoration of deep peat: repair of eroded and hagged blanket bog. The BBNP has the highest concentration of significantly eroding and hagged blanket bog in Wales, and this is therefore a national priority to remediate. With the launch of the National Peatlands Action Programme, which identifies the BBNP as an important area, and the fact that the BBNP is critically important for protecting and restoring bare, eroding and drained peatlands, and will remain so for at least the next decade as restoration work continues on this highest priority*, the BBNPA has appointed a dedicated project officer to co-ordinate the peatland restoration work, especially the acquisition and management of new funding and contractors; and to represent the BBNPA within the revived Welsh Peatlands Action Group.
