Wales Dark Skies Week, now in its third year, will be running from February 9th to 18th, 2024.
With events happening across Wales and online, the week is a joint initiative by all eight of our designated landscapes, the five National Landscapes: Ynys Môn, Pen Llŷn, Bryniau Clwyd a Dyffryn Dyfrdwy, Gŵyr, and Wye Valley, along with the three National Parks of Eryri, Bannau Brycheiniog, and Pembrokeshire Coast.
The Designated Landscapes are working hard to raise awareness of light pollution and how this impacts not just our view to the stars, but also our wildlife and health.
The week of events will share more about the crucial role of dark skies in biodiversity, human health, energy conservation, heritage preservation, and, of course, astronomy. The week will feature a variety of events held both on-site and online across all eight locations, meaning that there should be something available for everyone to join.
A joint approach to improving our Dark Skies has been supported by the Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places Fund (SLSP Fund).
The SLSP fund is a programme of capital investment across Wales’s eight Designated Landscapes, enabling them to contribute to key Welsh Government objectives around promoting biodiversity and nature recovery, accelerating decarbonisation, supporting resilient and green communities and delivering sustainable tourism.
